Furry Feline Friend Tales

Life becomes a bit more colorful with the presence of pets. I never thought I would grow my empathy through my relationship with this furry feline friend. My venture into the world of pet ownership began in 2019 when, as a family, we welcomed Jagger, a black-and-white tuxedo cat, into our home. He was our first official family cat, a stray that had been taken care of by my brother every day, and we eventually took him in. Jagger was a playful, friendly, active, fit, well-behaved, and never messed around cat that my mom loved so dearly. Not long after, we added another white cream Persian cat named Cemong (and later on BulBul). We had unbreakable bond ever since we found both of them sleeping on my mom's bed when she underwent surgery for her cancer, and both of them all cried as we were at the hospital.

Oh well, life never been fun without its misfortune and destiny had other plans. In 2021, Jagger's whiskers fluttered away. One of the first devastating loss for us and we never thought that furry little friend can create a big hole in our heart and honestly, I never seen my family has been more in touch with each other ever since we had a pet. Fast forward, three years later, I do still think of him now and then. Even with plenty of other cats that comes and goes, I think I still keep a box in my heart for him. Today, I just found this poem and I could not help with tears.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Life took an unexpected twist in 2020 when marriage get into a new character – Mpus, a 12 year old orange stray cat with a regal demeanor. With a tail held high, she claimed her throne, proving that royalty could indeed be found in the most unexpected places. Alongside Mpus, a revolving door of feline acquaintances made brief appearances, each leaving a sprinkle of magic before disappearing into the labyrinth of stray adventures. Currently were taking care a stray Pepe not Pepe Gonzales, it stands for Pemuda Pancasila. Because he is indeed like a "preman" who asking for his share everyday. Additionally, there is Rebecca, a neighborhood rescue who somehow got lost and just returned with skin and bones. She used to be soooo pretty, friendly, and fluffy. Rebecca reminds me of Jiji of Kiki's Delivery Service and Luna from Sailormoon. We are thinking to be her fur-ever home.

However, I think, actually, two cats are more than enough. Beyond that is unmanageable, as there are still only two people in our household, and both of us hold full-time jobs from 6 to 6. It just feels unfair for them as we are unable to provide them the quality of life they deserve and we would not have life outside taking care of the cats.
